As of May 5, the infection rate in state prisons rose to 67% of those tested.
Of the 607 tests conducted, the department reported 407 confirmed cases with 13 coronavirus-related fatalities statewide. The agency said 240 individuals have recovered and returned to the general population.
Two correction officers have also died, a representative for their union said.
幸运飞艇4码选号技巧DOCCS said it's adopting protocols in response to the "extraordinary circumstances." Among those steps were giving masks out to staff and isolating certain inmates and restricting their privileges.
Fishkill Correctional Facility in Beacon continues to remain the hardest hit facility in the state with 94 confirmed cases and four fatalities.
Sing Sing Correctional in Ossining has 51 confirmed cases with four deaths. Between the two facilities, 97 inmates are considered to have recovered from COVID-19.
Overall, New York's prison system had about 47,000 inmates in 52 facilities at the end of 2019.

- Otisville Correctional in Mount Hope: 44 cases with 23 recovered.
- Bedford Hills Correctional in Bedford: 39 cases with 29 recovered.
- Green Haven Correctional in Stormville: 36 cases with 15 recovered.
- All three facilities have reported one inmate who died from COVID-19.
Of the state's 607 total tests, 177 came back negative, and 24 were pending.
幸运飞艇4码选号技巧James Miller, a New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association spokesperson, said 1,117 employees tested positive in prisons statewide as of Monday. He noted the number includes civilian staff as well as correction officers.
Advocacy groups believe the state is not doing enough to protect incarcerated individuals from the virus.
Deborah Bozdaj, New York chapter president of Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants, a nationwide prison reform group, would like to see the state provide more personal protective equipment to correction officers, as well as to incarcerated individuals.
She also would like to see more transparency for loved ones attempting to contact individuals sent into isolation units.
"These cases continue to grow every day, as do our concerns for the entire populations and officers in the New York state prison system," Bozdaj said.
New measures taken
The department said it began providing masks to staff on April 15, in accordance with Gov. Andrew Cuomo's order. It said that masks would also be provided to incarcerated individuals who are subject to quarantine or isolation to reduce the risk of secondary transmission.

Mike Mazzella, Mid-Hudson Region vice president for NYSCOPBA, said the union has suffered two coronavirus-related deaths statewide. He said one officer was from Sing Sing Correctional Facility and the other from a New York City prison.
幸运飞艇4码选号技巧In a statement, the department said it is following the necessary protocols for handling inmates provided by the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Health.
"In response to this extraordinary circumstance, DOCCS has and continues to alter long-withstanding policies," read the statement.
幸运飞艇4码选号技巧Inmates subject to quarantine are placed in isolation or "quarantining housing units that meet DOH and CDC regulations for exposure." according to the department.
幸运飞艇4码选号技巧While in isolation, inmates are denied access to shared phones, or kiosks to send or receive messages on state computers. The state said loved ones with legal access to medical information through a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) waiver have the right to receive that information upon request. Loved ones will be notified if an individual is in a critical or life-threatening condition.
Inmates subject to quarantine are deemed recovered after 14 days in isolation, and 72 hours without a fever. Inmates will then return to the general population where they will be permitted to use their state-issued handkerchiefs as a mask.
The department said it issued enhanced cleaning and sanitizing measures, including continual cleaning of "high risk locations" such as housing units, and common areas.
