At the same time as the primary absentee ballots, the county election commissioners said residents will be receiving by mail separate ballots from their respective school districts for votes on budgets and school board races.

The 17-member governing body also approved $100,000 for printing from county coffers with the county executive's support.

The money is earmarked for election boards to mitigate extra COVID-19 expenses, according to Rockland election commissioners, Democrat Kristen Zebrowski Stavisky and Republican Patricia Giblin.
The federal grant covers printing and return postage for the envelop and ballot; masks, germicidal gloves and Plexiglass barriers for the safety at poll sites and the board's office; and hiring temporary help for the expected increased volume of ballots.
The $100,000 approved by the county government will go to the board's ballot vendor, Fort Orange Press in Albany, for optical scan ballots and separate miscellaneous election supplies. The legislative approval represents an extension of an existing bid reached with the Rockland Purchasing Department.
"We have a limit approved by the Legislature." Stavisky said. "We expect to have to print more ballots because of increased absentees. This will up the limit to ensure we are in compliance."

Two Republicans and four Democrats have filed petitions for the Senate seat, while eight Democrats and two Republicans are involved in separate primaries to succeed Nita Lowey, a Harrison Democrat who's retiring after 32 years in Congress, starting in 1988.
The presidential Democratic Party primary involving former Vice President Joseph Biden and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, could be on the ballot.
A federal appeals court judge over-ruled a state Board of Elections edict to cancel the presidential primary since Sanders has conceded the nomination to Biden. The judge ruled that the decision to cancel the contest amid the coronavirus pandemic unconstitutionally “deprived” millions of residents of “the right to vote.”
Some Sanders supporters want the primary so the senator can possibly amass more delegates for the party convention to influence the party's platform.
